Capricorn Community House – Polymer Clay Workshop

I am giving a series of workshops at my local Capricorn Community House, Yanchep. I’m starting with a couple of polymer workshops, one today and the next one in the school holidays.

Students had a good time making a few canes and putting them together to make pendants and beads.

Flowering Gum Tablecloth – painting names

The book club that have commissioned me to paint the tablecloth would like the name of the book club and the names of the members painted on gum leaves. So, I have started this next phase.

TRVMRG - RAAF Helicopter Exercise – Dolphins

Out on Sea Guardian II today for a RAAF helicopter exercise, on the way to rendezvous with the helicopter a pod of dolphins swam up to the boat. We slowed down and I took some photographs.

Atlantis Marine Park - what’s left of it!

Recently on my morning walk I decided to walk through what is left of the once thriving Atlantis Marine Park. The surrounding fence has been flattened in many places and people walk their dogs through the park or take a short cut through to the shopping centre.

The Atlantis Marine Park opened in 1981, with trained dolphins giving performances, paddle boats and many other attractions. Alan Bond who had purchased 20,000acres along the coastline eventually sold out to a Japanese company.
The giant limestone sculpture, King Neptune once a star attraction at the Marine Park still looks out surveying the park which is now in ruins.
These are some photos that I found on the internet of the Marine Park when it was a thriving tourist attraction.

TRVMRG – Rescue yacht

Today we had a callout to rescue a yacht whose propeller had been caught up in a craypot rope. He wasn’t too far from Two Rocks so we soon reached him and towed him back to the marina.

Flowering Gum Tablecloth – more painting

I am happy with the progress of the tablecloth. I have painted the red flowers with yellow centres and now working on the gum nuts.

Flowering Gum Tablecloth progress

I have mixed the paint to get the colours that I wanted, but I am not happy with the pink after painting some on the tablecloth. I have decided to go with a more red colour.

Flowering Gum Tablecloth

I have purchased the fabric and got ready to sew the hem. Before could do that I had to clear off my craft table which was covered in paints, polymer clay paper, tools etc. After cleaning the table thoroughly I was ready to make a start.

I have flowering gums all around my garden so I picked a small branch drew a pencil sketch which I used to mark out the design and roughly draw onto the tablecloth.
